Below is a screen shot of the main system editor. System and group layout is on the left side, while channels are shown on the right. The numbers in brackets indicate the quick key assigned to the system,
followed by a 3-letter description indicating the system type. In this case [CNV] refers to a conventional system. Note the button labeled "EZ-Grab!"

Below you can see the download screen. You can preview all systems installed on the scanner, select which ones you want, and simply hit the download button to start.

Automatic Scanner Optimizer

After you have downloaded the programming from your scanner, you may wish to check the Automatic Scanner Optimizer.
This is a utility that combs through your scanner configuration and checks to make sure you are getting the most
memory and fastest scan speed possible. Faster scan speed means less chance of missing an exciting call.
EZ Grab
EZ Grab lets you bring in frequencies from RadioReference.com, other websites, Excel, other scanning software and many other sources. In this example, RR is open.
Simply highlight the wanted frequencies using Firefox and copy to the clipboard.

The click on the EZ-Grab! button. This window comes up. Click on 1. Copy From Clipboard. The window will display the frequencies, channel names, tones if availble, and modulation. EZ Grab will automatically
make the column selection for you.

Next you click on 2. Import Into FreeSCAN. In an instant those frequencies from the web are in the program and ready to be uploaded into the scanner.

RadioReference Web Service Integration
The RadioReference.com Web Service provides a common documented standard interface to the raw frequency and trunked radio data in the radio reference database. The primary benefit to this Web service is the ability for software developers to write applications that can support this standard process for accessing the data.
FreeSCAN has full support for the RR web service. This subscription service allows you to download hundreds of frequencies, with tones, tags, and other settings instantly, saving hours of time.
Below is a screen shot of how easy it is to import. Simply tell FreeSCAN where you are located, and it will bring up all available systems (either trunked or conventional) for your area, for instant download.

Click on the Import button. A moment later, the frequencies will be in FreeSCAN ready to be uploaded to your scanner.

The program also allows virtual control & channel hit logging. Below you see the interface operating with a BCD996T

Below you can see it in the IPOD-style interface. The font type and colour is customizable on both interfaces.

Duplicate Frequency Finder
The duplicate frequency finder searches all systems for duplicate frequencies. You can set it to ignore channels if they have unique PL tones.
Double-clicking on a channel will take you to it in the editor. A feature unique only to FreeSCAN is "AutoNuke". If you have a lot of duplicate channels, AutoNuke will go through each one and delete all duplicates
sans original. There is also a similar Duplicate TGID Finder.

There are lots more powerful features in FreeSCAN. The best way to find out is to download and try it out yourself!
