I am pretty good at programming radios, but this is a weird problem:

I built a load for my 396xt. I let the program find the scanner. I attempted to upload, but got multiple errors (parsing?). I also selected that the program needed to erase the scanner completely first.

Sometimes, when programming a radio, I like to verify what actually made it into the radio, by immediately downloading the radio. When I do this, all FreeScan finds are data for Alaska! It shows two groups, labelled [] .

It doesn't see anything I uploaded, but the radio scans everything I upload.

Also, as part of the load, I put in placeholders by alpha tag (no frequency or talkgroup data). Do you think this is part of the issue?

Any ideas?

Thanks!!

It sounds like there is some kind of a basic communications problem. You might try lowering the baud rate on the scanner & FS to something like 57600 or even 19200 and see if it clears up the issue. The lower speeds will have no impact on upload/download speed since the scanner's cpu is pretty slow. Beyond that, you can try lowering the UART buffer in the COM port setup in Device Manager. If you are using a usb-serial convertor with a hub or some type of extension cable, try removing it.

The box I am using has a hard serial port in it, believe it or not!  Grin

I tried diddling with the speeds, and got a lot of funky errors (please inform the Yahoo group!)

However, changing the speed on the port tab in hardware seems to have solved this completely!!

Thank you SO much for your quick response. I can't imagine how many nonbillable hours you've dumped into the software, much less haunting this board!!! I appreciate your efforts!
