Downloaded 2.06 on winXP latop with serial cable to BC396D.  I travel a lot, so I'll build a profile and load it in for the trip. Same old scanner, same old cable, same old computer.  Even the same old files.  Only the Freescan version is different.

I had problems uploading the last travel profile, and now I cannot upload my home-based profile.  I tried a number of saved files, created a new file, always receive "critical errors" during upload; when checking comms the upper part always reports errors, I'll immediately try the Start Auto and it it gets comm.

I've manually cleared the scanner memory several times.

Direct controls shows a whack display of garbage in the virtual screen.

I would check to make sure that FS and the scanner are set to the same baud rate.

Yep.  Done.  Computer works with other scanners using serial cables,
this scanner and pc  works with other programs,
this scanner and pc did work with FreeScan before 2.06.
All that's changed is the FreeScan upgrade.

Might have to reinstall FS or .net then. You could also go into the serial port settings and turn on "Careful Mode", and turn off DTR. Also, try using the auto search button and see if it picks it up.

I would just make sure DTR is turned off. If that doesn't do it, and other programs are working, I really don't know what the issue is.

All possible combinations tried.  No success.  You changed something in v 2.06 that's different than the previous version.

Something in COMM, note that the ID query returns garbage and then returns valid data.

Perhaps I can reinstall the previous version to see if it's really software, or something else.  Do you keep your older versions saved off somewhere.

Thanks, Mike

I can't remember changing anything in 2.06 that could have led to this issue. But you can certainly try 2.05 it is available at http://scannow.org/files/old/fssetup-205.exe

Probably so.  However that assumes that just about everyone's computer and scanner configurations are almost identical.
They're not.  That's why programming is such a bear.

I program Radio Shack, other Uniden Scanners, and even some GE Radios with this computer.

I deleted Microsoft's .NET version 4 extended. leaving me at Client 4, reloaded FreeSCAN 2.06 and now it works.

Uniden's ARC396 software was also whack with .NET 4ex, now it's working better.

Scannercom's BCD396T Advanced Control, which does not implement .NET, never had any problems.

Perhaps something in the .NET framework; or in Uniden's controls and .NET;  if it's anything like JAVA or PERL, changes always seem cascade downstream.

All I can say is that when I would start the COMM handshake during tests, when it failed; the "Response Received" output would vary.
Then the handshake would work.  And I could repeat the test case.  Classic indication that's it's the software.

I may play around and upgrade .NET and post back.  Other than that the workaround is to revert to the previous version of .NET

Regards, Mike

Is C-Channel output turned off? (Menu/settings/Set C-CH)

Give that a look and see if it got turned on by accident somewhere along the line.
