Nasty note: "Invalid Handle Calling wave In Stop"

Anybody...
1. I am trying to make the record feature to work on my Vista 64x machine. I set up the recorder options and when Freescan recieves a transmission, the above subject message piles up one over the other like domino play pieces. Very pretty to watch, but scarey... am thinking I'm filling my hard drive up with non-essentials. What do I need to do to make recording work? (BTW, the record works okay on my Windows 7 laptop)
2. Hang Time in the recording setup: for any given position of the hang time pointer -- how many seconds does that position (say, half-way point) represent after a carrier shuts off (is this the same as "delay" when setting up a scanner program?)
Thank you.

1. Sounds like it is not compatible with your sound card. Might have to play around with your sound card settings.
2. I think the maximum is 2 seconds, and the minimum is 0, so anywhere between those is 0-2.. Hope that helps.

Never played around with sound card. iTunes work okay. I thought the Nasty Note is generated by FreeSCAN.

I've seen similar messages when the incorrect audio input was selecting. It's hard to tell in Freescan, what input to choose. For my HP computer, both Realtek and NVIDA inputs are listed, but they're only numbered. It's not clear that NVIDIA (1) is the "Front Pink" jack, or NVIDIA (0) is "Rear Pink", NVIDIA(3) is "Front Mic", etc. I had to do trial and error to figure out which one my cable from the scanner was actually connected to.
Also, unfortunately, if you are trying to run more than on FreeScan to control/log more than one scanner, it's not easy to set up the audio. Unless I'm missing something, you have to choose the correct audio input each time you start. There are magic command line options to setup the com ports and interface look, but NOT the audio port. Assaf, please correct me if I'm wrong, and if not, please consider adding a command line option for setting up the audio.
Happy Scanning,
Ben

Thank you for the response. On my Hp laptop, all I used is the USB-1 cable between the laptop and the 396XT, and the option I chose was Realtek Hi Definition Audio (0) which worked. The other option was Intel(R) Display Audio (1), which I tried and did not work. Laptop with Vista 7.
On my Dell desktop (with Vista 64x), I have only one option: Realtek (0). Choosing it gave me the error. I hope I do not have to use and audio cable along with the USB-1.
What does the (0) and (1) mean?
Thanks.

I forgot to ask maybe a dumb question... Do I need to use an audio cable between the computer and the scanner BESIDES the USB-1 cable with FreeSCAN? On second thought, what I thought was working for the laptop was that the laptop built-in microphone (on top of the lid next to camera) was picking up the transmission from the scanner's loudspeaker (reason why the MP3 playback was very faint); and the Realtek (0) meant that microphone on the lid. I suspected that when I played back a file during which file I moved the scanner around on the dining room table where the laptop was located, and maybe I heard the vibrations travelling through the table from scanner to lid microphone.
Then on the Dell desktop, the "(0)" of Realtek(0) designates the audio input jack on the CPU unit.
Tell me I am on the right track. I do not really want to plug the earphone output (low impedance I suspect) into the micophone jack (high impedance I suspect) of the Dell computer unless I know that that is how it is to be done. What setting would I put the volume control...anybody who has done this with your 369XT and FreeSCAN.
Thanks.

I think that is what is happening. it is recording audio from the mic. Last time I hooked a scanner directly to the input of the laptop I almost cooked the sound card and saw the PC do things I've never seen it do before, so I would suggest using an external sound card.
I tried recording on a 64 bit Win7 machine with a realtek soundcard and everything seemed to be fine, so I'm not sure what the problem your having is. 0 and 1 are the device id's. I've been meaning to work on it so you can select the sound card from the command line. We'll just have to see.

Thank you, Assaf. You said:

Do you mean that you did use an audio cable (through external sound card), or did not use an audio cable at all, but merely used only the computer cable for the scanner (e.g. Uniden USB-1)?
I am still not clear if an audio cable is used.

As far as I know, you have to connect an audio cable from the scanner to the sound card you are using. I don't believe the USB-1 you mentioned does anything besides provide an RS-232 port for controlling the scanner. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
