Need Help Uploading to Scanner

Hi, I think I need only simple help for my problem. I tried the RR Forum before I new this one existed. The help I received while well meaning was no help to me personally. I was told I didn't understand the way files work. No argument there. I don't know how to create a list from my file of systems to then upload to the scanner. In USAD you go to "Configuration editor/systems" and build what you want to upload. In Butel you go to "Create Profile" and build what you want to upload. I don't know how to do that in FreeScan. I have spent hours and weeks trying to figure it out, I'm sure there's a simple explanation. I have dug some holes I can't get out of, so I hesitate to keep aimlessly trying. I have read the instructions a number of times. I have searched through the entire forum looking for a similar question and answer. All to no avail. I accomplished making a list of four systems that would be uploadable, but I have no idea how I did that, or how it may have happened, so I know it can be done. I don't consider myself to be stupid, but this one has me buffaloed. I was also told to drag systems into a file, but from where to where? Is someone willing to be very basic and lead me in the right direction step by step. I would certainly appreciate it. Thanks.

I remember trying to help. You need to forget what you learned about how to do things with other scanner. There is no list of systems. There are no profiles or configurations or other such things. Ok...
Now to create multiple systems in one file, you just create one system, and then another, and then another until you have every one that you want, and then upload to your scanner. You don't need to make special lists or save different files or other such things. Just make as many systems as you want, then upload. You can save them to a file and then load them later if you wish. I hope this clears things up.

It sounds to me like you are only wanting to upload a select number of systems to your scanner. IOW you have a large number of systems in your FreeSCAN file (say many cities) and you only want to upload a certain number of them (say 3 cities this time) to the scanner.
From your main file, choose upload to scanner and when that window opens, check off the systems (3 cities in my hypothetical situation) you want to upload, then "load programming". This will send only the selected systems.
If that is NOT what you're trying to do, let us know and maybe someone will have another scenario to offer.

I'm back. I think we're starting to get somewhere. Thank You. It Sounds from Tom's post that when I Open the "upload to scanner" window it should have files in it, whenever I open the "upload" window it is blank, unless I have files listed in the "browser window". In one of my original cries for help on the RR chat room I tried to describe that I can never get more than one "system" into the "Browser Window" at a time. If I have one system in the Browser Window, and then try to add another one, the first one goes away. That is why I was trying to create a list of some sort, to be able to get more than one system into the browser window at a time, which would then result in multiple systems in my Upload Window. I did by mistake create a sort of "list". In one of my Individual town files I ended up with four systems, when I open that one town file in the browser window, four town systems are listed, a "list" of four systems, which then are listed in the upload window when I open it. As I said, I don't know how I created that "list". This is my entire problem, I cannot get more than one file into my browser window or upload windows at a time. I had a great number of systems in my "main file" consisting of both State poh-leece and Local poh-leece. I created a second file and moved all of my local poh-leece into the second file as I wanted State in one scanner, and local poh-leece in a second. Now I have two different "main" files, so I could actually upload a full complete file, but that brings me back to the initial problem of only being able to get one system at a time into either window. I really don't care about having a "list", I just want to get multiple systems uploaded at one time. How do I accomplish that??? It is true, I don't understand the difference in "files". My individual system files are ".996" files, I don't know how that differs with say a "USAD" file, or any other file.
I feel really stupid, and feel that there is something very simple here that I'm missing. I hope that some of what I'm typing here makes some sense to you guys. Thanks again for your time.

I think the problem has been that you are trying way too hard, and overthinking. You can put everything in one file. It is designed to work like that.
The problem has been that you would create a system, then save it, start a new file, create a system for that file, repeat. Hence you have only one system at a time. When you create a new file, put ALL your systems in one file, and dont start over and make a new file for each system. Just make the systems, save them, and upload them. I know other programs use lists,, profiles, system configurations, different types of files and so on and so forth, but with FreeSCAN, everything is just one file and for better or worse there isn't any of that other stuff. There aren't multiple files for each system. All systems can reside in one file. So you combine all the systems in one file.
Now to create one file with all your existing files, there are two ways to do that. You can just upload everything, one at a time, to your scanner, then download it as one file. Or you can use the import feature to combine them all. I hope that helps and eases your frustration.

Thank You Assaf for that. I don't want to have to upload one at a time if I don't have to. I just tried to combine with "import". I clicked "import", then "from freescan", then "open", my main file window opened. Now again, I can't get more than one of my individual systems into the import window at one time. Is there a way to do that? What is the procedure? Somehow I combined individual systems into one system before by mistake. How could I have done that? I'm going nuts here. Thank You.

OK, Thank You very much. I just tried to import one system at a time and that seems to work. That will be much easier to do than uploading one at a time to the scanner first, so that's what I'll do. I wish I knew initially that I should have kept creating additional systems before "saving" therefore making just one file. That would have saved me all this time(weeks), and frustration. Soo much frustration. Thank You again.

Yipes! You mean to say that I have been doing things a lot harder than I should? As an example of what I think you are saying: (see attachment) say... that on the left pane where some of my many existing systems are showing (as unchecked), and the checked one is one (BLM) I just added and I want to add BLM to my scanner while not erasing any other systems in scanner, all I have to do is leave the "Systems to Upload" like I see it (only BLM checked) but choose "Add only, do not overwrite" button on the right and then finally "Load Programming" ?? That seems to easy and obvious... I used to think that I had to select the "All" button and the "Erase All Systems & Settings" before loading. Sometimes I don't tend to believe what is obvious.
Correct me before I try that and mess up the programming in my scanner.
Thanks.

From the screenshot you supply, *I* would go with what is default (One system checked, overwrite if there). That way if I happen to have the system already IN the scanner it gets overwritten and I don't have duplicate system that will come back to bite me later on.
Yep, it really *IS* that easy. <wide grin>

Thanks, and I guess it works both ways... say I found a CTCSS with my scanner for a frequency after I added/revised the BLM system and I want to update the file in the computer (I have been going back to the file and manually added the CTCSS newly found tone), would I (when time to download to computer from scanner) then check only BLM, and after selecting Queue Sysem List (those systems on the scanner) and Check only BLM, and what next? what options on the right side do I choose? so that I do not erase the scanner and/or erase the file in the computer I want to revise.... I guess FreeSCAN is THE scanner software for dummies like me.
