Version 2.03
Issue: Flagging unmonitorable systems
Can the message be tweaked a little bit for LTR Multinet/Passport systems? These are scannable conventionally but not trunk-trackable.
I also noticed that P25 phase 2 systems are not being flagged. Is that because the web service isn't passing anything that tells you about that?
I tested NexEdge, Open Sky and IDEN systems, and these are being flagged correctly. I didn't have a Pro-Voice system in my list, but that too is completely unmonitorable.
I'll add something for this into the wiki after the holidays.
Some stuff for the next release, I guess. 73 and happy holidays...Mike

Just downloaded this new version, and something has gone terribly wrong and I'm not sure what happened. The download/install went fine, but when I try to open any of my files I get a popup window saying wrong header information found for service search. File may be corrupt. Aborting. Then another popup comes on and says wrong header information for favorites. File may be corrupt. Aborting. I can then open my file(s) but all of the frequencies in EVERY group are gone! I'm seeing the systems on the left side, all the groups within those systems, but every frequency within the groups is gone. What the heck has gone wrong?

I have downloaded/installed numerous versions of Freescan and have been using these files with no issues before, but I have no idea what just happened.

It's just a side effect of an optimization that I did. I fixed the error and patched up the file, so if you redownload and reinstall you should be OK. These last minute bugs always seem to sneak up.

Just uninstalled the program and removed all traces of it. Downloaded the new version, installed it, ran it, tried to open a file and I'm getting the same exact error messages and my frequencies in ALL of my groups are gone.

Might have to clear your cache and redownload it again, should work after that. With some of the old versions you had to do an uninstall first but its not neeed anymore so you can save yourself the extra mouse clicks.

Cleared cache, redownloaded, still no frequencies to be found. This is frustrating.

That is very strange because I am able to load files without any issue here. I don't suppose you hit save on any of the files after getting an error message loading them did you?? If so then you just need to restore those from your backup.

I'm sure that I did, for fear of losing everything. I tried restoring them from my backup and still see the same thing, no frequencies anywhere. I may have to read data from the scanner and save the files again. This sucks.

I am a little puzzled why you would have any issues with the redownloaded version. I tried it on several PCs and everything seems to work ok. Has anyone else run into this?

The first version 2.03 messed up my file after saving it. Luckily I had a good backup to restore from. I redownloaded the newer 2.03, restored my .996 file, and saved it, closed, and reopened without any problems so far.
There have been several times over the many different versions of Freescan where the files have been corrupted. It's quite frustrating. I highly recommend backing up your .996 files often, and storing them in different areas, so you don't loose all your work.

Not sure what you mean by several versions. It's been an extremely rare problem and it only occured once before. Ofcourse backing up is important for any file.

To help clear up any confusion, I've changed the version to 2.04. The very first 2.03 had an issue with loading/saving files and this will help get everyone on the right track.

Having some issues with the host provider right now, we'll get the new version online soon though once they sort out their server.

And so far so good with 2.04 - I didn't notice any corruption issues. Thanks for getting it done so fast - I needed to reprogram my 396 for my Xmas trip.
By the way, re the warning about unmonitorable trunks - MPT-1327 is like LTR-MultiNet and Passport. It can be scanned conventionally, just not trunktracked (at least not without external software). So the warning about being 'unscannable' isn't quite correct.
In the next release - whenever - if the message could be tweaked for these 3 system types, that would certainly curtail any confusion.

Fortunately, I had my files stored on my laptop computer also. I then emailed them to myself, saved them on my main computer, then downloaded the latest Freescan version. When I opened the files all was well. Thank God I had them in another location. Of course I could have just read from the scanner into Freescan if need be.

I might change the vervage or something to suggest that it may be possible to monitor them otherwise.. It does say "may be" unscannable right now as to not dash all hopes.

I'd like to make a suggestion for future builds.
Can the COM port setup be moved to a more centralized menu, or if you have your heart set on it being on the Virtual Control page, can you add a link so that it can be accessed more directly (i.e. from both the main window and the virtual control menu)? Some of us have multiple scanners on multiple cables and have to switch COM ports around depending on which scanner we plan to read from/write to, and going into the Virtual Control each time we want to change the port settings just seems cumbersome to me.

In the scanner menu click on either upload or download and then on "things you can do"...there's a comport setup there also.
