To start off, I was directed here from another forum. I just got a Bearcat396xt.  Obviously, I don't understand most of what is does yet. One thing that it does and drives me nuts is cuts in and out while listening to a frequency. I set the scanner to play FM radio to demonstrate the problem.

Here is a youtube video of on a radio station. It does this no matter what I'm listening to.  When it cuts out, the signal strength bar also disappears. I am 100% sure this isn't caused by a weak signal. It does it at :05 :21..

One last thing, FreeSCAN is amazing. I started to program everything by hand  :'(and then remembered somebody recommending this website and FreeSCAN. I just got it working in time tonight to hear one of my neighbors getting a ticket. Grin

Thanks again for FreeSCAN.

Hi El Genio. I am glad to hear that you like freescan. Your audio cutting in and out is probably because you have Close Call or WX Priority turned on. See this FAQ:

Hello, I'm having another newb problem.

I'm in an area now here I need to use a trunked system.  I used freescan to program a P25 system and when scanning the scanner stops on a TGID which I believe they are talking but I can't hear anything. (yes, I have the volume turned up) Hopefully, you can post a link to a wiki or something easy. Thank you in advance.

If it helps here is a blurry picture of the screen when it stops on a TGID.

TGID: 2741h and NAC: 1C0

Strange you are getting a NAC.. I don't suppose you selected P25 One Freq Trunk as the system type??

I really don't know how I did it until I get home and can look at FreeSCAN which be a few days at the least.

I'm going to try the  P25 Standard option.  Do I need to put in all the frequencies or just the control ones?

You can put in all of them if you want to be safe, but you can get away with just the control.

I need some advice professor. Smiley

What can spontaneously cause this? I downloaded the new FreeSCAN and nothing changed.

and this? I put the rubber antenna back on and the system worked fine. Since the quality is so good, I'll explain it. On my P25 auto system, it would stop on a TGID like EMS as somewhat shown in the video then automatically starts scanning again after like .5 second. Of course there was no audio. Its hardly visible visible but the signal was coming in and out like from full strength to nothing and back.  Mainly, just pay attention to the signal and TGID's.
I am sure signal strength is not a problem in this location.

Any ideas would be great.

For the first one, make sure your control channel output is turned off, and that you have the correct baud rate. I don't know whats up with the second problem.

The weird problem fixed itself. FreeSCAN still isn't working but now I think I have a bigger problem.

Edit: Now its working but what could of caused this?

Now the scanner doesn't pick up any frequencies. I put two of the conventional frequencies in my old Radio shack pro 51 scanner and it picks them up fine, while the Uniden skips right over. I even park the Uniden on the channel and it picks up nothing while they are broadcasting. It just keeps on saying Scan on the screen and never stops on anything. If I use Close Call mode, it'll usually pick up off the repeater but not even that works.

I had it on in my bedroom, went into another room and could hear talking but when I came back into the bedroom the thing was silent and remained silent all night. Ever heard of this?

I check the first 9 pages of rr and didn't see anything.
