Just picked up this used almost  new  996Tscanner  and new to all this . downloaded the latest  Freescan  software and both PC and  scanner  are talking at the same baud rate . I know this cause there was some  EMS  talkgroups  already  installed . The front dispay  shows the  City , Central EMS the  frequency  of  856.1125 then  S0: blinking 1  with 0 at he  other end, below this is   GRP1234------
I  download  into  the  Freescan software all the info the scanner  had .
I  got the latest  trunking system info  such as  TGIF   and Display  for my area  here in winnipeg on  RadioReferance .com.  I tried to  upload some fire  talkgroups into the  scanner  by the  mini  usb  but I think I`m  missing  something  in my  proceedure as the  996T didn`t  receive any  signals but word  Fire did show  on  display . Is there a sample of steps I need to  follow.  Such as  enter in  frequency first ?We use a  motorola  type II   around here on fleetnet.

thanks allot

Yes you do need to enter the frequencies for that system if you want to be able to hear anything. Just having the talk group will not be enough. But it doesn't matter which ones you put in first.

Ok  In the  Site  Setup  I  entered  in the  Trunk Frequencies  including  the   control  channel frequencies for my PD, Fire etc..
I uploaded once  again  to  the  996T  and  seems  to be  stopping on the  trunked  frequencies and I hear  audio comms and it shows  alpha ids of the  service  I entered in the Display colum  next to the  TGID
Should Modulation  set to  FM, NFM  or AUTO ?  Right  now  its  FM.....

The modulation depends on what system you are trying to monitor. If you look at RR they usually indicate modulation type. If its digital it doesn't matter. If you pick FM instead of NFM, voices will come in more quietly then they should be but it will still work.
